Dubai's ambition is written in glass and steel—the Burj Khalifa, the Palm, shopping districts that dwarf small nations. But underneath the superlatives is a real city, recently wealthy, where expat workers vastly outnumber Emirati locals and the contrast between gloss and grit feels deliberate.

You'll either find it fascinating or exhausting. The heat is brutal (May–September regularly hits 45°C). The cost is high. The culture shock cuts both ways: strict laws on behaviour sit alongside one of the world's most international cities.

Beyond the resorts and malls, there's the old souks, desert safaris, coastal escapes, and the Abu Dhabi interior. Most visitors spend 3–5 days. Longer stays reveal a city still figuring itself out.
