Lotte World sits in the heart of Songpa District, anchored beside the glittering surface of Seokchon Lake, and it manages to pull off something genuinely impressive — one of the world's largest indoor theme parks housed beneath a single roof, with an outdoor section called Magic Island extending over the water. The scale surprises you even if you think you know what to expect. Indoors, the central atrium rises in sweeping tiers of rides, carnival stalls, and an ice rink, all wrapped in a kind of cheerful organised chaos that feels distinctly Korean in its energy and attention to detail. The rides range from family-friendly carousels to the genuinely thrilling Atlantis roller coaster, which launches you into a high-speed plunge with very little warning. Magic Island is the more photogenic half, with the lake as a backdrop and the colourful Gyro Drop tower visible from kilometres away. Queues can be brutal on weekends and Korean public holidays — expect one to two hours for popular rides if you arrive without a strategy. The Magic Pass system lets you book ride times in advance through the app, which is worth doing the moment you enter. Getting there is straightforward: take Line 2 or Line 8 to Jamsil Station and follow the signs, a walk of around five minutes. Admission varies by package but generally runs between 50,000 and 65,000 won for adults, with combination tickets covering both indoor and outdoor areas. Dress in comfortable layers, as the indoor section runs quite cool even in summer, and if you're visiting during cherry blossom season in late March or early April, the lakeside views from Magic Island are genuinely worth the extra crowds.
