What to expect

The day opens with a barefoot wade into cool sacred water at Mengening Temple—it's quiet and genuinely used by locals, not a stage set. Expect to feel the temperature drop and hear birdsong. At the healer's house in Batuan, you'll lie down for firm hands-on bodywork, then a second phase that's more spiritual—candles, whispered intention, stillness. Lunch isn't provided, so eat beforehand or plan a stop. The artisan villages are working spaces, not tourist traps; people will be at their benches. Late afternoon light at Tegalalang transforms the rice into gold and bronze bands.

Good to know

Bring a spare shirt and towel—you will get wet during purification. Wear modest clothes (sarong supplied). The healer session involves touch, so communicate any injuries beforehand. Private means just your group, which keeps the pace relaxed but also means you cover a lot of ground. Good fitness isn't required, though there's some gentle walking and uneven temple steps.
