A full-day excursion to Nusa Penida island with your choice of two routes: the western circuit covering Broken Beach, Angel's Billabong, Kelingking Beach and Crystal Bay, or the eastern loop via Tree House, Diamond Beach and Atuh Beach. Both itineraries depart early from your Bali hotel and return by late afternoon, with private transport, insurance and bottled water included. Expect dramatic coastal cliffs, secluded beaches and plenty of photo stops, though the island's rough roads and numerous staircase descents demand reasonable fitness.

What to expect

Collect from your hotel by 6:30am, then a boat ride to Nusa Penida (roughly 30 minutes). Pack sturdy shoes—the route involves constant steep descents and climbs, particularly at Kelingking (west tour) where you'll navigate 45 minutes down natural stone steps and over an hour returning. Roads are rough and potholed; expect a bouncy ride. Each stop allows time for swimming, snorkelling or simply soaking in the views. Lunch at a local warung midway through. You'll return to Sanur harbour by late afternoon and be back at your hotel around 5:15pm. The east circuit features more staircase walking overall.

Good to know

Wear proper hiking footwear and apply sunscreen liberally. Not suitable for those with spinal injuries, heart conditions or pregnancy. Bring your own snacks and drinks beyond bottled water provided. Roads remain rough year-round; take anti-nausea tablets if prone to motion sickness. Customising either itinerary incurs an extra USD 25 per person.
