What to expect

The morning kicks off with a bumpy but manageable 4x4 ride deep into the Camargue's marshland. Your driver knows where the herds congregate and stops frequently for sightings. After roughly 90 minutes, you'll pull up to the riverbank where a cooler of food waits—charcuterie, bread, wine, fruit—eaten in the dappled shade of willows. Then comes the transition: guides help you into kayaks for a downstream float that takes the afternoon. The current is gentle, the paddling straightforward, and you'll drift past reed beds and occasional cattle before returning to base.

Good to know

You need moderate fitness for both 4x4 bumping and kayak paddling. Not suitable if you have back problems, are pregnant, or have heart concerns. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and water shoes or sandals that won't slip in the kayak.
