About this tour
This half-day excursion from Toulouse takes you to the walled citadel of Carcassonne, a medieval fortress perched above the Languedoc plains. Depart in a climate-controlled minivan with an English-speaking guide, who'll walk you through the ramparts, point out architectural highlights like the Saint-Nazaire Basilica, and share the restoration story behind this UNESCO site. You'll have time to wander the cobbled streets solo before returning to Toulouse.

What to expect
You'll meet your guide at a central Toulouse location and ride out through farmland toward the fortress. Once at the Cité, the guide leads you onto the ramparts—expect uneven stone paths and some stairs—where you'll survey the surrounding landscape and the lower town below. You'll visit the basilica, admiring its interior light and period detail. The guide then releases you to wander the narrow medieval streets, duck into shops, or sit in quiet corners. Allow about an hour of solo exploration before the group reconvenes for the return journey.
