What to expect
Your driver collects you from accommodation and drives south to Rifugio Sapienza on Etna's lower slopes. You choose your own adventure: either a moderate trek along park-marked paths to around 2000m, or add the high-altitude option (extra cost, booked in advance) to cable up to 2504m, then ride in a sturdy 4×4 to 2900m where the views span across Sicily. The drive back descends to Zafferana Etnea, perched on the volcano's eastern flank. Here you visit a honey producer, taste several local varieties—wildflower, chestnut, honeydew—and watch how they process and jar it. Bring water and proper footwear.
Good to know
