What to expect

You'll board a catamaran at Cairns and cruise roughly two hours to the Outer Reef, where the platform becomes your base. Most travellers head straight into the water with snorkel gear and instruction; visibility is typically strong, and the fish are unafraid. If snorkelling isn't your style, the semi-submersible descends beneath the surface so you watch from dry seats, or duck into the observatory tower moored alongside. Between water time, the crew serves tea, lunch, and a short talk about reef ecology. The boat back to Cairns leaves mid-afternoon.

Good to know

Inform crew of any medical conditions before snorkelling. If you plan to dive, allow 12 hours before flying to altitude; 24 hours if multiple dives. Scuba is available as a paid extra and requires minimum age 12. Wheelchair accessible. Hotel transfers aren't included—arrange separate transport to the Cairns departure point.
