Launch at dawn or dusk to drift above the Loire Valley's châteaux-studded landscape in a hot air balloon. This 3 hour 45 minute experience includes roughly an hour aloft, where you'll survey the royal river, Renaissance castles like Chambord and Chenonceau, and patchwork vineyards from an entirely new vantage. The silence of the basket—broken only by the occasional burner roar—creates an oddly meditative counterpoint to the visual spectacle unfolding below. Ground transport, pilot expertise, and pre or post-flight refreshments are included.

What to expect

You'll meet before dawn or late afternoon, then transfer by 4x4 or coach to the launch field. Watch the balloon envelope fill—a surprisingly rapid, theatrical process—before boarding the basket. The ascent is gentle; within minutes the châteaux shrink to architectural ornaments scattered across the valley floor. Wind currents dictate your route, so no two flights trace the same path. Vineyard rows become visible texture, the Loire reveals bends you'd miss from ground level, and the quality of light at either end of the day bathes everything in warm, saturated colour. The landing is smooth but requires a brief walk back to the chase vehicle.

Avoid if you have spinal injuries, cardiovascular concerns, or are pregnant. All fitness levels welcome. Wear layers—altitude temperature drops noticeably. Toilets available at the meeting point.
