About this tour

Spend 90 minutes at a private pottery studio in Ischia learning clay hand-building from a practising ceramicist. You'll shape your own piece using coil techniques rooted in ancient Greek methods, then leave it to cure and fire over the following weeks. The studio provides tools, apron, gloves, and refreshments whilst you work.

Highlights

  • Hand-build a clay object using traditional coil method
  • Learn from an active ceramicist about Ischia's pottery heritage
  • Take home a fired souvenir (post-firing shipping available)
  • All tools, protective gear, and refreshments supplied
  • Air-conditioned studio, no fitness requirements

What to expect

You'll arrive at the studio and receive an apron, gloves, and a rundown of basic clay-working from your instructor. The bulk of the session involves getting your hands into clay, building up walls using the coil technique—nothing complicated, just rhythmic layering. Your tutor will show you how ancient potters approached form and colour. You'll finish with a recognisable object: a vessel, figure, or abstract shape. Once done, it stays at the studio to dry slowly, then gets fired in a kiln over two to four weeks.

Good to know

Shipping your finished piece home costs extra; US delivery isn't currently available. The studio is near public transport. Wear clothes you don't mind getting clay on. Pieces are ready for collection or shipping after firing.
