Fly out of Darwin for two and a half hours over Kakadu National Park's remote reaches—wetlands, waterways, and the Mary River spread below you. Depending on the season, you'll see either Jim Jim and Twin Falls in the wet or Arnhem Land's sculpted plateaus in the dry. This is country you simply cannot access on foot, revealed from the air in its full expanse.

What to expect

You'll depart Darwin Airport and spend the flight taking in vast, undisturbed country. The pilot navigates you over water systems, wetlands, and the Mary River's snaking course. In the wet season, expect views of powerful waterfalls tumbling over red cliffs; in the dry, the focus shifts to Arnhem Land's distinctive plateau formations and ancient rock art country. The landscape below changes constantly—sparse vegetation, billabongs, and geological features that look entirely different from ground level. Bring a camera with a good zoom; the perspectives reward photography.

Good to know

Infants under two fly free but may sit on a parent's lap if seating is full. Minimum two adults required for the flight to depart. Food and drinks are not included; bring water. Service animals are welcome. All areas are wheelchair accessible.
