What to expect

The day kicks off at the wildlife park where a ranger walks you through enclosures housing everything from hopping kangaroos to venomous reptiles. You'll get close enough to photograph koalas during their morning feed and handle interactions with kangaroos. After that, you'll trade the park for Brisbane Water National Park—a short drive away—where a walk takes you past waterfalls nestled among red gums and banksias. It's quiet bush rather than dramatic scenery. Lunch follows, then a final stint exploring coastal lakes and beaches where you might spot pelicans. The journey home unfolds on a scenic train: you'll sit back as the route winds through native bush, creeks and the Hawkesbury River before pulling into central Sydney.
