About this tour
An 11-hour day tour combining Litchfield National Park's swimming holes with a crocodile encounter. Start with a 45-minute boat cruise at either Crocodylus Park (home to 40+ saltwater crocs, including massive 5-metre specimens) or Adelaide River, then spend the afternoon exploring Litchfield's natural pools. Swim at Wangi, Florence and Buley Rock Holes, spot Cathedral and Magnetic Termite mounds, and visit Tolmer Falls (wet season). Led by an experienced Top End guide in a small-group van or coach.
Highlights
- Hand-feed and photograph a baby saltwater crocodile
- Boat-based croc spotting from viewing platform
- Three natural swimming holes with crystal-clear water
- Cathedral and Magnetic Termite mound formations
- Seasonal Tolmer Falls and monsoon vine forest walk
What to expect
You'll depart early and head straight to the crocodile encounter—either Crocodylus Park's purpose-built facility or a wild river cruise. The boat ride delivers genuine adrenaline as guides point out basking crocs; you'll get a tactile souvenir holding a juvenile. The afternoon shifts to Litchfield's swimming circuit. Each waterhole is stunning but cool year-round; snorkel gear and floats are provided if you need them. Walks between sites are moderate, and you'll hike through monsoon forest to Wangi Falls. The Termite mounds and Tolmer Falls lookout break up the driving.
Good to know
Tolmer Falls only flows properly during wet season (November–March). Bring extra snacks and water beyond what's supplied. The itinerary involves several swims, so pack a change of clothes. Not suitable if you have serious fitness limitations. Infants must sit on an adult's lap in the vehicle.
