What to expect

You'll start early (8:30 am) from your city hotel and spend the morning on foot, exploring Melbourne's character through its laneways. At Moonlit Sanctuary, staff walk you through enclosures to spot wombats, koalas, and other wildlife in semi-natural habitats. The drive to Phillip Island takes roughly two hours. After a self-organised lunch break, you'll walk the Nobbies' elevated boardwalks and scan for seals. The day's highlight is the Penguin Parade: you'll stand on the beach (or viewing area) as little penguins emerge from the ocean and waddle inland at dusk—a reliable, memorable show. Expect to be on your feet for stretches; the pace is moderate.

Bring lunch or plan to buy it en route. Wear comfortable walking shoes and layers—Phillip Island can be windy and cool, even in warmer months. Tours depart at 8:30 am sharp; arriving late forfeits your spot and cancellation fees apply. Not ideal for cruise ship passengers due to tight timing. Children aged 4–7 can use booster seats; under 3s aren't accommodated.
