What to expect
You'll be picked up before dawn and driven uphill in an air-conditioned Jeep, arriving at the summit as light breaks across the crater. After breakfast and time absorbing the view, descend through textured lava formations—your guide will point out geological landmarks and handle photos. Mid-morning, you'll soak in natural hot pools fed by geothermal springs; the water's warm and the vantage over the caldera is genuine. The final leg takes you to a quieter waterfall where you can wade, swim, and rinse off before the drive back. Expect a full but paced day, not a rushed one.
Good to know
Not suitable if you have spinal issues, are pregnant, or have heart concerns. Bring a light jumper for the summit—it's cooler at altitude. Swimwear and a quick-dry shirt help at the waterfall and springs. Roads are rough but the Jeep handles them. Roughly 1 hour spent at actual stops; the rest is travel time.
