What to expect
You'll be collected from your hotel around 1–2 a.m. for the drive to the trailhead. The trek up takes roughly 1.5 hours; the path is steep but well-trodden, and your guide sets a manageable pace with regular stops. Temperatures drop near the summit. Once light arrives, you'll eat breakfast with views across the caldera. The descent (about 45 minutes) is easier on the legs than the climb. You'll then head to the hot springs for a 30–45 minute dip before returning to your accommodation, arriving mid-morning.
Good to know
Wear layers—it's cold at 5 a.m. but warms quickly. Bring a light rain jacket and sturdy shoes with grip. The trek demands moderate fitness; those with back, heart or pregnancy concerns should skip it. Dehydration and altitude fatigue are common; pace yourself and drink water steadily.
