What to expect

You'll be picked up before dawn and driven to the trailhead. The trek up takes roughly two hours in darkness with a headtorch—steep but manageable for most fitness levels. Reaching the rim as the sun rises rewards the early start with sweeping views across the island. Breakfast, cooked using the mountain's geothermal heat, follows at the top. The descent takes about ninety minutes. Afterwards, the hot springs provide genuine relief for sore calves and thighs.
