This 15-hour full-day adventure combines a pre-dawn climb of Bali's Mount Batur with whitewater rafting in the afternoon. Starting before sunrise, you'll trek to the summit of this active volcano with a local guide, then descend to a riverside breakfast with views across the island. The second half takes you down thrilling rapids before returning to your accommodation. Moderate fitness required.

What to expect

You'll be collected from your hotel in darkness, then driven to the volcano base. The trek itself takes 1.5–2 hours of steady climbing on rocky terrain to reach the summit around 1,700 metres. You'll catch sunrise from the top—genuinely stunning if conditions allow—before eating breakfast while the island wakes below. After resting briefly, you'll head to the river for your rafting section, which involves manoeuvring through genuine rapids and narrow canyon sections. This isn't a gentle float; you'll get thoroughly soaked. The full day is physically demanding but manageable if you're reasonably fit and accustomed to exercise.

Good to know

Bring warm layers for the pre-dawn start and mountain chill. Wear proper hiking shoes with grip, not sandals. Pack sunscreen, a headtorch or torch, and a waterproof bag for your camera. The tour isn't suitable if you're pregnant, have cardiovascular concerns, or are unfit. Guides are local and knowledgeable.
