What to expect

The helicopter departs for open water within minutes, banking east toward the reef system. You'll trace the colour gradient from pale inshore waters through turquoise shallows to deep blue channels—each shift marking different reef structures below. At the continental shelf edge, the ocean floor drops steeply; your pilot will point out channels, bommies and sandy patches where marine life congregates. Commentary focuses on what you're actually seeing: feeding patterns, seasonal movements, reef health. Allow 10–15 minutes for takeoff and landing procedures either side of flight time.
