What to expect
Your driver collects you and heads toward Kintamani's volcanic zone. After a 20-minute drive, you'll reach the black lava field—a sprawl of dark rock formations where you can step out and walk among the lunar-like terrain. From there, another 25 minutes takes you to the black sand flats. You'll hike a short stretch to a good vantage point, then settle in to watch the sun dip behind the volcanic ridge. The jeep absorbs the bumpy tracks; your driver handles navigation and can point out landmarks. Bring a camera and patience for variable light.
Good to know
Not suitable if you have spinal issues, are pregnant, or have heart concerns. Children under three should stay home. Wear sturdy shoes and bring sun protection. Lunch and dinner aren't included, so eat beforehand or pack snacks. Roads are genuinely rough—expect dust and jolting.
