What to expect
You'll depart early and climb steadily through Mount Batur's landscape in your own jeep, stopping at vantage points as light breaks across the volcanic terrain. The ride is bumpy and technical—the 4WD tackles uneven tracks and steep sections. Once the sun clears the horizon, you'll explore the surrounding lava plains on foot with your guide, examining the geological layers. Breakfast happens at altitude before you descend. If you've selected the hot spring option, you'll finish at Toya Devasya to soak and cool down.
Good to know
Wear long trousers and sturdy shoes; bring layers, sunglasses, a hat, water, and a camera. Maximum three people per jeep. Not suitable for pregnant travellers, those with spinal conditions, or poor cardiovascular health. Pack a swimsuit if adding the hot spring option. Petty cash covers extras beyond included meals.
