What to expect
You'll head out early from the mainland or Magnetic Island to reach the wreck site. Before descending, the crew runs through safety protocols and shares stories of the Yongala's past. The wreck sits at depths suitable for Open Water certification, though some sections go deeper. Expect 40–50 minutes underwater per dive with time between for lunch, hydration and rest. Marine life is prolific—you may spot sea turtles, wobbegong sharks, groupers and barramundi navigating the broken superstructure and coral gardens. The atmosphere is calm, deliberate exploration rather than rushed sightseeing.
Good to know
You must be a certified Open Water diver with at least six logged dives. Divers with fewer than 15 logged dives require a paid guide onboard (booked day-of). Bring proof of certification, swimwear, towel, hat and sun cream. Not suitable if pregnant or with cardiovascular concerns. A fuel levy applies separately at booking.
