What to expect

You'll start with a scenic drive to Uluwatu Temple, arriving in time to watch the sky turn orange and pink from the clifftop vantage point. The temple crowds are significant at sunset, so arrive early to claim good viewing spots. Once dusk settles, the Kecak dancers take the open-air stage; expect 45 minutes of rapid-fire chanting, percussion, and stylised combat choreography—loud, engaging, and wholly different from ballet or contemporary dance. After the performance, you'll drive north to Jimbaran Beach, where grilled fish, prawns, and squid are served on tables planted in the sand. Bring a light jacket; the ocean breeze cools down after dark.

Good to know

Dinner is not included—budget for beachside seafood separately. Wear comfortable shoes for the temple and consider sarongs if you lack covered shoulders or knees. The Kecak stage has no air-conditioning; sit towards the back if heat bothers you. Roads can be slow during peak hours; allow extra time.
