What to expect

You'll meet your guide at the starting point and begin a steady climb through the park's distinctive volcanic scenery. The terrain is manageable—moderate fitness required—with 250 metres of elevation gain spread across 2.5 hours. As afternoon light softens, the landscape takes on striking colours. You'll reach the viewpoint well before sunset, settling in to watch the light show as the sun sinks below a blanket of cloud and the silhouettes of distant islands sharpen against the sky. The descent happens in darkness, which is why head torches are essential. Allow time for photos and simply absorbing the moment.

Good to know

Bring warm clothes—temperatures drop significantly at altitude, especially at sunset. Pack your own water and snacks. Hiking boots are essential. Transport to the meeting point isn't included, so arrange this separately. Not suitable if you have spinal issues, are pregnant, or have cardiovascular concerns. Children must be at least 8 years old.
