What to expect
You'll be picked up early and driven to the trailhead in Kintamani. The trek ascends roughly 2 hours in darkness with torchlight, gaining elevation steadily on volcanic terrain. Near the top, twilight breaks and you'll see the crater and surrounding landscape materialise. After sunrise at the summit, you'll have time to explore the crater rim, then descend over 1.5 hours as the day warms. Breakfast comes at altitude; lunch happens after you're back down. The full day covers ascent, summit time, descent, and return transfers. Fitness is essential—this isn't a casual stroll.
Good to know
Bring layers; it's cold at the top before sunrise. Wear sturdy shoes with good grip for loose volcanic rock. The guide stays with you the entire way, not just at parking areas. Not suitable for pregnancy, poor cardiovascular fitness, or spinal injuries. Children can join if fit enough and accompanied by adults.
